REVIEW: FEIER Smart Somatosensory Slide Board
I’m excited to give you my review of the FEIER Smart Somatosensory Slide Board. Spoiler alert: it’s my latest favorite fitness find. It was just released as the latest product by the company called FEIER. When they offered to send me a board to review, I jumped at the chance. I had never heard of or used a slide board before and was excited to give it a try. As always this review is of my own opinions and impressions.
In case you don’t know, I love all things exercise and especially fitness products that take up minimal space in my house. I’m definitely not an expert or professional, but some of my favorite ways to exercise include hiking, cycling, running, weight training, cardio workouts, and ballet. And now I’m adding: sliding.
First off, the form factor is amazing on the slide board. It rolls up into a bag that can be carried or worn on your shoulder. The USBC-to-USB charging cable, instructions, and shoe covers are also easily stowed away in the bag. It’s easy and quick to set up, and I love that I can bring it into different rooms or could even travel with it if I wanted. I like how the set up is really straightforward. It feels like a nice yoga mat, but with two end pieces. And what took me a second to figure out is how to turn it on – pro tip: just press and hold the power button for a couple seconds.
What I noticed right away is how slippery the top side of the board is. But that is intended. It’s what provides the feel of skating or skiing. I have to admit, it took me a little while at first to get a hang of the motion. My advice: is to start sliding very cautiously. Take your time getting accustomed to the motion.
I chose the white version of the board. It also comes in a dark gray version. I love the clean and modern aesthetic of it. It totally matches my house – which makes me so happy! I enjoy matching my fitness products to my space.
For sizing, I chose the mid-range length: 71 inches long by 20 inches wide. At first, I wasn’t quite sure how long I needed, but this size works great for me. I’m 5’4” and the size also works for my tall 6’3″ husband.
Watch the video below for some footage of me giving it a try for the first time. I’ve never skied or done ice skating before, so it definitely took a few tries for me to get more confident and nail the motion. I have to add that once you get the hang of it, it’s super fun and addicting! 😉
Each time your foot hits one of the ends of the slide board, the LED lights up. This signifies that you’ve completed one side. There’s also a counter that can be switched to a timer or calorie-burned counter. And it can even be played as a skiing game with the app. And let me say, it’s a super good workout! As I’m editing my review, my legs are sore from all the sliding I did the day before. While working out, my heart rate also got elevated which made for a really great and enjoyable aerobic workout. Sliding is not the only exercise you can perform with the board either, mountain climbers with the slippery surface make for a challenging ab workout; plus I enjoyed doing single leg squats and more.
After I got the basics down, I downloaded the FEIER app on the app store which made the board come to life! The app easily connected via bluetooth to my board. It also updated the software to the latest build. My favorite part on the app, are the instructor-led classes that motivate and teach how to properly slide on the board. For instance, right off the bat I learned from the instructor that my arms are supposed to stay behind my back when performing the ‘skater slide.’ I can’t wait to do another sliding class! I enjoy guided classes because they help to motivate me. I started with a beginner course, but they have more advanced ones including HIIT and tabata. The app also tracks your activity. It’s really cool!
It’s safe to say that I’m already addicted to the slide board. It works so many muscles for me. My inner legs, abs, quadriceps, coordination, and balance all were challenged. The board is really good quality, too! I love how it works on balance, cardio, and toning all at the same time. I definitely have more practice to do with it, but I can’t wait to keep getting better at it. My recommendation is to have fun and be careful sliding your way into a new fitness routine.
