Basic Invite: My Review

I’m delighted to share with you my latest review: meet Basic Invite. In case you haven’t heard of Basic Invite before, it’s a web-based company where you can completely customize and order all things invites, announcements, cards, stationary, and lots more. The possibilities are seemingly endless. I love expressing myself through pretty (and usually pink 😉 ) holiday cards, stationary, and invites, so when Basic Invite reached out to me, I was instantly onboard to give their products a try. As with all of my reviews, my opinions are all my own. I also wanted to give a shoutout to Basic Invite for sponsoring my review and providing you with 20% off + free shipping on your orders.

What I love about Basic Invite

1. Color Customization

As a light pink fanatic, I know just how hard it is to find the perfect shade of blush to express myself. It takes me longer to find the perfect pink Christmas card to mail to family and friends each year because I like it to reflect a blush, modern aesthetic. But Basic Invite has totally solved that problem for me! My favorite part of their website is the ability completely customize the individual colors of all of their designs. They have multiple shades of pink – score! But if you don’t like pink, no worries, because they have over 180 different colors to choose from. And the best part is, they have an instant preview of what your card looks like as you are editing it.

2. The Designs

Design is HUGE when it comes to any type of card, invite, announcement, etc. To me they are forms of art that can be used to subtly reflect your personality, the event’s vibe, and make your recipient smile all while simultaneously spreading the intended message and/or details. This may seem hard to nail, but with the countless possibilities and customizations on Basic Invite, it is totally possible and easy to. My vibe is totally neutral tones – light pink, cream, tan – with a modern, simplistic flair. At first glance, I fell in love with the aesthetic designs Basic Invite has to choose from. In fact, there were so many to choose from, I had difficulty deciding. One of my top picks is the terrazzo business card design. I loved how I got to pick each individual color on the card – it feels so me! I also thought it was so cute how they have a whole section devoted to pet holiday cards – love how I can highlight Teddy on it – such a great idea. And my favorite of all is their clear options – such as wedding invitations, graduation announcements, party invites, and more. The clear style is timeless and so classy! I love how it literally blends in with any recipient’s household decor. Plus it totally stands out since it’s such a unique piece. For fancy occasions or to add that extra shine, they also offer foil (flat or raised) designs in gold, silver, and rose gold.

3. Custom Samples

What’s cool about Basic Invite is that you can order samples of your custom design before having to place the entire order. It gives you the opportunity to really dial in the exact color and paper style you want. For important life moments, this level of detail is a great idea before taking the entire plunge. Colors can vary based on what type of paper you select. I had so much fun ordering lots of samples and am pleased with how each turned out. I love how the premium shimmer glistened for Teddy’s Christmas cards (left on picture below, right is the signature matte). My samples shipped via USPS from Utah and arrived a lot earlier than expected too, which was a pleasant surprise.

4. Free Envelopes

I’m not a fan of envelopes that need to be wetted to seal, so a huge plus for me is that each invitation order comes with a free white, peel-and-stick envelope. Envelope upgrades can include printing guests’ names, addresses or both, plus there are some colored options. The super cute and neutral thank you card I chose came with a really nice, peel-and-stick envelope which I love! I didn’t make any adjustments to the template besides updating my name. The card is a good, thick material, and the print is so nice.

5. Wedding Everything

When it comes to wedding and wedding planning, Basic Invite has it covered. From cheap save the dates to wedding invitations with RSVP (these are invitations that include a tear off RSVP – genius idea!), they offer so many options for any type of wedding vibe. They even offer wedding freebies such as an in-depth printable wedding planner and the ability to create a free website to collect guests’ addresses. Sadly I didn’t know about Basic Invite back when I got married in 2014. If I had, I would definitely have ordered from them! I had fun reimagining my invitation as if I were getting married now. The print quality, paper thickness, and colors were spot on. I loved how I could include a color photo on the backside of the design that I chose for a personal touch. After some market research, I realized the pricing on is also amazing.

What I didn’t love about Basic Invite

There’s so much to love about Basic Invite. However, one drawback I noticed is that the website and its editor can be slow or unresponsive. To workaround that, I found it worked best in Google Chrome. If for some reason the editor didn’t work, I would click around a few times to get it to respond. Adding something to the cart was sometimes slow or looked like it didn’t work. But when I checked my cart, it would be magically there. 😉 If you have any questions, please reach out to me anytime. I’d love to hear from you or help out. Also don’t forget to save 20% and free shipping with my Basic Invite coupon code:

Call me crazy, but I already can’t wait to start planning my Christmas cards for this year – I’ll definitely be ordering from Basic Invite 🙂
